Twisted Tuesday Challenge #69-Look! Up in the Sky!!

Hey Everyone!

The folks over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges have yet another awesome challenge up and running!  This fortnight the theme is:  Look!  Up in the Sky!

The Challenge:  Represent the sky in your creation
The Twist:  See somethings that flies in the sky in your creation.

Here is my take:
felt frame and clouds: Fancy Pants; Twine: Sew Easy; Journey journal tag: Maya Road; Text stamp: Hero Arts; Cloud Embossing folder: Darice; Rub on letters: Making Memories; patterned paper: WeR Memory Keepers; plane stamp: Prickly Pear, special delivery stamp: Inkadinkado

I based is off of this Sketch#108 over at Sketchabilities

I double embossed a peice of white cardstock.  First with white embossing powder and a text stamp and then with a cloud embossing folder.  I then used Distress ink to add the blue shades and make the clouds pop.

In my neck of the woods the groundhog with the authority on winter duration is Wiarton Willie.  His prediction this weekend was that an early spring is only in our dreams!  6 more weeks of winter!  Yikes!  At least we know how to make the most of this weather in my family...it's a necessity!  This weekend we did just that-a family ski trip!  It was a first on many levels for my little family: C3 went on her first drop off (no parents allowed) activity (ski lessons), we headed to a ski resort we had never been to before (even though it's relatively close!), we were accompanied with friends and their family and shared accommodations for 2 nights.  All of this resulted in LOADS OF AWESOME FUN!!  I feel really blessed to have spent some quality time with family and friends!  Here's to more!

C3 loving skiing with daddy!  Love that smile!
I would also like to submit this layout to the following challenge:

New Year, New Twisted Tuesday Challenge! Happy 2014!

Hey Everyone!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I have a feeling this is going to be a super great year!  I ran in a "Resolution Run" on New Year's Eve.  It was a 5km Winter run and authentic winter run it was!  -The temperature was -19C with the wind factor!  I sure was a chilly one but I did it!  I ran the whole way!  (Stopping really makes the cold seem 100 times colder so it's a great motivation to keep running!).  HUGE accomplishment for me!   I hoping I started the new year off on the right foot.  Here's to a year of fitness, health, happiness and a lot of craft time!

The first challenge for this 2014 year over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges is: Mixed Signals!
The Challenge: Use at least 3 crafty company products on your creation.
The Twist: Use an arrow somewhere on your project!

Here is my cranium concoction:
"hair" letters: Thickers; "gone" letters: Chatterbox; patterned papers: DCWV; Butterfly punches: EK Success, Martha Stewart; journal stamp: Autumn Leaves; doily die: Spellbinders.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Twisted Tuesday Challenge #66 - New Beginnings!

I am absolutely flabbergasted at the rate at which life is moving right now!  Seriously!?  2 weeks since my last post!  CHRISTMAS EVE ALREADY!!!  Holy moly!!!  I can't believe it!  Not to mention it's been quite eventful in my neck of the woods these last few days!  But before I get to that....

There's a new challenge up and running over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges!  #66: New Beginnings.

The Challenge:  Show us something crafty that is new to you either received or bought
THE TWIST: Make the theme of your creation something new or the beginning of something (baby, car, house, marriage, beginning of a race, etc).  Here is my creation!

The sentiment stamp is from Technique Tuesday, the embossing folder is from Cuttlebug and the pearl embellies are from Prima.
The sentiment stamp and the pearl pretties are new.  The card is for a new baby on the way!!

Be sure to check out the inspiration from the rest of the design team!  I can't wait to see what you create!

On another note:

We've had quite the ice storm and were without power for over 12 hours.  The world around me is coated with about an inch of ice!  It's absolutely GORGEOUS out there but also incredibly dangerous and destructive.  Trees are down all over the place unable to hold up the weight of the ice and they keep breaking!  It kinda looks like a warzone!  But it is very pretty!

My daughter and I decided to make the most of the ice covering everything and go for a skate.  Our whole street (road and sidewalks) was a virtual skating rink!  Sooooo cooool!
MERRIEST OF MERRY CHRISTMAS to all of you!  May your holidays be filled with laughter, love and a lot of warm squishies!

Thanks for stopping by!

Twisted Tuesday #65 - Cutting Corners

Hey Everyone!

Two posts today!!!  For the 123 Get Scrappy Post click HERE!

Can you tell that the holidays are near!?  It seems like I've gone into hyper drive with the busy busy (and it's not like it wasn't busy before!)  It makes for a lot less crafting time (or at least blogging time) which makes me sad but still alot of life goodness going on so all is good!  Last weekend (yikes I guess is was actually 2 weekends ago!) it was a weekend of firsts in my household!  C2 had her First Reconciliation, C1 and C2 had their first piano recital, C1 has her first mass in our church as an alter server and it was also the first day of Advent!  Not to mention this past week was potty training week at my house so C3 had her share of firsts as well!  Potty training sucks but there has been definite progress made in the last week so I'm not complaining!  Yay!

Sooooo....onto what you're really here for....
A NEW CHALLENGE is up and running at Twisted Tuesday Challenges!
This fortnight here's the scoop:
The Challenge: Fussy cut something on your creation.
The Twist: Do something special with the corners of your creation (i.e. rounded, ticketed, etc....)

Since the holidays are just around the corner and its Christmas card making time here is my contribution using this week's challenge:
border punch: Martha Stewart; digital stamp: Angels Landing;sentiment stamp: Hero Arts; mist: Studio Calico, markers: Copics, patterned paper: DCWV

I had a lot of fun making this card! I punched the corners of my panel with a snowflake punch and fussy cut the adorable penguin!  It seems that most of the Christmas cards I made this year have a penguin theme to them.  My little C2 definitely approves!

Most of this card is made from scraps in my stash I've had for a while!  The patterned paper scrap and the green stripy strip (which is packaging from a CTMH stamp) I've had for years!  The silver snowflake was confetti strewn across our table at my work Christmas party c.2008 and I took a whole bunch of it home as they were too cute to leave behind!

I hope I've inspired you to play along!  Be sure to stop my the rest of the DT blogs over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges for more wonderful inspiration!  I can't wait to see what you create!

Twisted Tuesday Challenge #64 - Fall and Giving Thanks!

Hey Everyone!

Another challenge up and running over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges.  Yaaaaaay!  Always a happy day!  I certainly hope you can join us!
Here is this fortnight's requirements:
The Challenge: Make your creation a FALL theme
The Twist: Make is also a GIVING THANKS theme

How very appropriate a challenge giving the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday over in the US this week.  Thanksgiving in Canada happens in October but really there is no limits to giving thanks!  I hope we all are inspired to give thanks to all the blessings in our lives!

Here's one of my reasons to be thankful:
patterned paper: various unknowns, Chatterbox; date stamp: Technique Tuesday; letter dies: Quickutz;flowers: Prima

These photos were taken years ago and when I came across them they reminded me of many memories at this park.  My parents took my sister and I here every thanksgiving to go for a hike and see the fall colours, later hubby and I would hike here and take in the waterfall and the foot bridge and a few years later he would propose marriage to me in this park.  Taking my kids here is a new tradition we've started and these photos show the first time I took my first born here (with my sister tagging along).  Good times!  I am grateful!

I chose a fall colour palatte as well as the photos themselves were taken during the Canadian thanksgiving weekend.

I hope I've inspired you to create a fall and giving thanks themed project!  I can't wait to see what you create!  Did I mention there is some goodness to be won?  This month's sponsor is Bugaboo Digi Stamps:

Twisted Tuesday Challenge #63 - Pop Dots and Polka Dots

Hey Everyone!!!

It's that time of the month again!  New challenge time over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges!!  We're up to challenge #63!!!  Here's the scoop:
The challenge : use pop dots or dimensionals on your projects
The Twist: use Polka dots somewhere on your project.

Here's my take:
patterned papers: DCWV; washi tape: Recollections; flowers/gems: Prima; other: 7 Gypsies, Making Memories,  Thickers.

The polka dots are on the washi tape and the pop dots are under some if the flowers.

I stumbled upon this photo of me when I was 17 years old.  I was at a Music Festival as a teacher.  I was in a hotel room shared with other music teachers for the weekend competition.

Ahhhhhh....to be 17 again...or at least to look like I was.  I remember being so self conscious and insecure back then but it seems so ridiculous to me now.  To have that hair or physique again...I would be thrilled!  Anyways...I guess it's all part of being a teenager.

I hope I've inspired you to play along over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges!  I can't wait to see what you create!

Twisted Tuesday Challenge #62 -ANYTHING GOES!!!

Hey Everyone!

Had a super great time yesterday with some friends and their kidlets enjoying the fall freshness and sunshine.  It definitely is getting chilly around here!  Brrrrrr!

Anyways,  It's the 5th Sunday of October and that means (*drum roll*) its an ANYTHING GOES challenge over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges!  Wahooo!  I can't wait to see your creations.  To get you in the mood here's a little something I put together!

the flourish diecut and title font: Quickutz, patterned paper: MME,  flower-Prima, stamp: CTMH

I stumbled upon these sequence of photos on my computer of my little C1.  She's about 2 and half in these pics (she's 9 now!)  How cute it is to see her little smile all excited to eat her ice cream and then see her little messy grin transform into little Miss Grumpy Pants when daddy had to take the ice cream away to save it from creating a super sticky mess on our stairs.  Ahhhhh....Mem'ries!

Be sure to play along over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges!  There is some good stuff to be won and who knows...you may get a chance to be a Guest Designer!  Sweet!

Thanks for stopping by!

Twisted Tuesday Challenge #61 Celebrate Naturally!!!

Hey Everyone!

It's new challenge time over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges!  I can't believe how fast 2 weeks flies by! I truly loved seeing all your creations!  Keep 'em coming!

This fortnight the challenge is (as always) fun and sure to get the creative juices flowing: "Celebrate Naturally"!
The Challenge: Use a Celebration theme
The Twist: Use a natural element (i.e. wood, raffia, twine, hemp, hay etc)

The first weekend of this month I ran my first 5km run for CIBC Run for the Cure.  It supports breast cancer research.  I had just recently taken up running.  Primarily to lose some weight and to moreso to improve my fitness.  Endurance sports was never my forte!  When I participated in track and field events my specialty was anything that required throwing: ball throw, shot put, javelin.  Although I tended to excel in many sports, running was definitely not my strong suit!  Anyways, I figured signing up for this race with a friend of mine on a team her mom had put together (her mom is a breast cancer survivor) would be a great motivation for me to get better at this running thing and support a great cause as well!

As it turned out it was harder than I anticipated but my team members were great motivators.  Especially at the end when I was about 100 meters from the finish line (and in DIRE need for a washroom) and I almost gave up and walked across the finish line, they pushed me that last few meters and I completed it running!  Yay!  A milestone for me!  Definitely a reason to celebrate for me!  Moreover, our team of 5 people raised a total of $1205 for breast cancer research!  Another reason to celebrate!

As a result, my layout this week is based on this experience!
patterned paper: various unknown, DCWV, MME;stamps: CTMH, Recollections, Flourishes, MFT;wooden flowers: Dollar Store; pennant punch: Fiskars (Jenni Bowlin)

The pennant was a great stash buster using scrap bits from my scrap drawer.  Not to mention the banners are all strips of paper from the same scrap drawer.

I hope to see your creations for this weeks Twisted Tuesday Challenge linkied up over there!

I'd also like to submit this to the following blogs:

New Challenge at Twisted Tuesday! Challenge#60! YAAAAAY!

Hey Everyone!

Has it been 2 weeks already!?  I've been a busy bee over here.  Trying to get the last bits of summer fun in over the weekends with the family.  The weather has been wonderful these last few days (except today but it got better as the day went on).  Can't wait for all the leaves to change colour.  I love Autumn!

Well, there's a new challenge up and running over at Twisted Tuesday Challenges!  Challenge #60 (ALREADY!!!).  This fortnight's theme is: Heavy Metal!!
Challenge: Use alot of layers (i.e. heavy)
Twist: Use Metal on your creation.

LOVED this challenge!  I dug deep into my stash.  As it turns out I really like the metal embellies and have a lot waiting for their moment to shine!

Here is my creation!

patterned paper: MME; sentiment stamps:PTI; hat stamp and crochet flower: Recollections; metal grommets, photo turns, corner edge:Making Memories; tag/scalloped lable: Maya Road; die cut woman and letters: Quickutz; copper wire: Dollar Store

I bent copper wire into flourishes and attached to layout with copper brads.

I wrapped a circle punched piece of cardstock with white yarn and coloured strands of it with markers to get a similar pattern as the ball of yarn in the logo.  Tooth pics mimic the knitting needles of the logo.
Hats Off to Liz is a group of wonderful ladies who volunteer their time and talents to create hats (chemo caps) for cancer patients as well as baby burial gowns/blankets/hats for babies who grow wings and fly off before/soon after they arrive on earth.  For more information or ways to help make a difference please check out our website or check out this link.  I am so very proud to be a part of it!

The grommets used in this layout are at least 5 years old.  I have them in many different circle sizes and in brass, copper and silver.  I also have them shaped as flowers.  Used MAYBE once in since I've had them!  The scalloped label and tag I've had for a couple years.  There's more where those came from...all awaiting their time!  I'm glad these ones found their way out!

Be sure to join in all the Twisted Fun over at Twisted Tuesdays and check out my fellow DT members for inspiration and show them some commenting love!

I can't wait to see what you create!
